Playing God

Saddam is dead
So was Anthony Ler
Who's next?
Took? Huang Na's murderer?

There can be no denial
The atrocities of their crimes
But putting them to death
Would not bring back the dead

Who are we, mere mortals
To play God?
By sentencing them to die
Are we not murderers, too, in God's very eyes?

No, we don't condone
Their hideous, gruesome crimes
But surely God's wrath they'd face
During Judgement Day

They already took Took's life.
And I thought you read the papers religiously, as often as you see your wife?

The next one to be chopped up would probably be Leong Siew Chor lor.
Yes why not put the murderer to sleep the same way they did to their victims hor?

God will punish them on Judgement Day for sure but why delay it
When you can make it right this minute?

Chinese saying: "The victor becomes king and the vanquished becomes bandit" (particularly applicable to Saddam). It is therefore not surprising when the victor believes that he has now attained the divine right to act on the behalf of God.

I read Took was denied the presidential pardon. What? They "killed" him as soon as our president said no?

Why killed Saddam when we could have tortured him and make him die a slow death? Like what he did to his fellow-men? I wrote in jest, of course. We can argue until the cow comes home about capital punishment, Victor. My sentiment is that, yes these murderers ought to be punished for their crime. But ultimately, they are answerable to God. And the Execution should be the job of God and God alone.

Eastcoastlife,

I take that as a compliment, thank you.

I had problem leaving comment on your blog... I too was intriged with fengshui. But somehow, I have this naggy feeling that it sort of clashes with our Christian way of life. Still, I've juz bought Lilian Too's Fortune & Fengshui 2007 book. It says Fengshui has absolutely nothing to do with religion? Crap... Anyway, I intend to read it with a pinch of salts... and try not to go overboard ... LOL.

One of fengshui basic principle is the oneness of man and his environment. Here is a good example. During my first visit to Cameron Highland, I found a few Indian boys playing shirtless in the open and I asked the guide: "Wow- these local kids are real tough, able to stand the cold. See we are wearing sweaters". Guide replied: "yeah-the kids are products of a healthy environment. Mr Lam do you know that doctor of the clinic at Tanah Ratah is practically catching flies - very few patients!" This is a self-explanatory answer. Apart from having some scientific truth, fengshui contains quite a bit of 'poppycock'.

Yes Chris, Took was hanged within 2 weeks after he was denied presidential pardon. Ah, maybe that was when you were happily holidaying down under. I remember that you stopped the newspaper delivery during that period.

Eastcoastlife - you are thinking of dating Chris already? I know that he shares the same name with your husband, but... but...
